Back In The Saddle

Hello!

First off, let me tell y’all, you guys are the BEST! I’ve missed you and I want to thank you for your comments and emails in my blogging absence. Not a day has passed that The Rez, my friends, and blogging were ever far from my mind.

These days, I am busier than ever. If I thought I was busy before……nowadays, my life is just plain nuts. Sometimes, I am not sure whether I am coming, going, or standing still. I will begin regular writing and posting but just not as often as I have in the past. My new goal is now once a week or more frequent should the ‘urge’ strike me when I have time to sit down and pound it out on my keyboard.

Enough blabbering, here’s whats new on The Reservation…..

  • My hair is finally one length, everywhere. I just had it cut a few weeks ago, it took forever to grow my bangs back out.
  • Wee One goes to preschool all day! 8am – 2:30 pm. He loves it. He has 2 new teachers and Wee thinks they are the bomb. His favorite teacher from last year, Ms. J is now in charge of the school (the site’s manager).
  • Scooter is fat and happy. He is feeling better these days. A couple of weeks ago his arthritis was acting up and he was sore. Scooter started a new supplement that seems to be helping very much.
  • Freddie has went on to become a coon-hunting mount! He has a little grey girlfriend and is much happier at his new home.
  • My favorite fancy goldfish croaked…sniff sniff. I think the calicos were picking on him but hubs disagreed.
  • Kitty has gone to a new home where she will be the only cat. I just heard from her new elderly owner, Kitty is very happy in her new quiet environment.
  • Marvin is still as fat as ever…..and crabby as ever.

  • Bubba was homecoming Freshmen attendant. He was very proud! He is also doing good in school and football. Bubba is playing for the JV and the Varsity.
  • We went to N.MI and visited my family this summer. We had a wonderful time. It was so good to see all of my family! I miss them so much. We drove home thru WI, MN, IA, and KS.

  • We gained a new family member, a 10 month old spayed female Shih Tzu named Harlie. She is very smart, trained, and LOVES to play. Needless to say, Wee One and Harlie are inseperable. Marvin is less than thrilled.
  • Hub’s new wells were successful and work is busy for him which means things are going well for my family.
  • Fall has arrived…despite our 80 degree temps. Fall is my favorite season and I am enjoying it once again.
  • I am still discouraged with our choice for presidential candidates! I like Palin. Hubs thinks she is hot but says he is writing in Hillary when he goes to vote. WTF?!?!?! Obama? I think he is a very big mistake……a very very big one.

Despite my crazy, chaotic life and having to live within a certain budget, what it boils down to, is….my life is pretty darn good. The only thing I ever aspired to do was to live surrounded by horses (well, horse these days for now) in the country, enjoying the outdoors, being able to read and write until my heart is content.

Megwetch to all my friends! I shall be around shortly…….

Res Update

Rain, rain, and more thunderstorms coming my way soon.

Yesterday was a windy but beautiful day. However, I was unable to enjoy it because there was too much going on at home and away from home. Hubs and the boys did sneak in a quick swim. Lucky them, my tan is fading!

Tragedy has struck smalltown Oklahoma. I am sure you’ve all heard the horrific story about the Oklahoma school girls shot and killed in Weleetka. 2 shooters, 2 guns, 2 awful murders. No suspects. LE is really working hard to catch the killers but the clues are few.

13-year-old Taylor Paschal-Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker were gunned down execution type style a quarter of a mile from one of the girl’s homes. This horrendous crime took place in a 25 minute time frame on a desolate rural dirt road last Sunday. This could have been anywhere in SmallTown USA.

LE thinks the killers are local. If they are, I know too well how hard secrets are too keep in a small town. I hope someone comes forward with the info LE needs soon. There is much speculation and I’ll leave it to the rumor-mill message boards.

Kitty has been really playful. Here she is waiting for someone to hold the front door open so she can speed outside which is OFF LIMITS.

Freddie heard me talking to the horse-shoer. My horse-shoer’s wife has a lonely donkey and she likes Freddie, they want Freddie. I said maybe………hmmmm

Scooter strolling up to the barn for another fly-spraying. OMG! the freakin’ flies are awful.

We have our racing turtles for Saturday’s Founders Day celebration. They will be all turned loose immediately after the races. Wee One is excited! Best friend L and her daughter are coming over Saturday morning to spend the day and go to the festivities with us.

The baby toads were sprung loose last weekend-they all survived.

Wee One’s new favorite TV show is the old Incredibile Hulk shows on the SciFi channel. He calls it ‘the green man’ show. Wee wants to go see the new Hulk movie but I told him it was for older kids, he wasnt happy about that.

Things have been nuts around here the past few months. I keep thinking it will all calm down but I am losing faith. I hate being this busy all the time.

Hopefully the rain holds off, Wee One and I are off to see Bubba’s baseball game. I hope we win!

Slooooow Turning Wheels

Scooter, “ Hey, no fair. Where’s my yard privilages?”

Me, ” you have 30 acres, go mow them”

Freddie, “yeah!”

Freddie is a pretty darn good lawn mower.

Gas has hit $3.65 a gallon here in Oklahoma. These days, I am trying to make my trips into town to a minimum. Which sucks! Because then I am stuck with 45 minutes or an hour to burn and nothing to do…..except spend money. I HAVE been packing along a book and reading in a shady spot, but damn, I could really use this time at home. It’s a no win situation.

***************************

The wheels of Justice turn ever so slowly.

But, at least the damn things are turning.

Over 2 years ago I posted about an Unsolved  murder of a 16 yo girl in my area.

This was not locally to me but a small town not too far off. I worked with people from this town and I knew ‘of‘ the people involved on a hearsay basis.

I heard recent rumors that this murder was going to be solved and by golly, I was thrilled to see this week’s papers! We have quite a few ‘unsolveds’ in my county. Hays’ murder weighed on my mind because I felt Law Enforcement knew who murdered Hays and did not give a rats ass because the suspect was already incarcerated and Hays was somewhat of a ‘lost soul’. Okay, maybe not all of the investigators felt that way….but the real people in charge had bigger fish to fry.

From the Pawhuska Journal Capital :

Eleven years may seem like a long time to wait, but the Osage County Sheriff’s Office feels like it finally got its man.

Since Amy Lee Schlock Hays, a 16-year-old teenager from Hominy, was killed in the summer of 1997, Ty Koch has been working the homicide. He was an investigator for the sheriff’s office back then, and has since risen to the ranks of sheriff.

Koch arrested Jeffrey Scott Garrison, 39, last Friday for the crime, and Garrison has been booked into the Osage County Jail with bail set at $1 million.

“Looking at our evidence, we hadn’t really gathered anything new, I just felt like we had enough for probable cause to issue an arrest warrant,” said Osage County District Attorney Larry Stuart. “I have looked at this for a long time, and I believe we have DNA evidence that links Jeff Garrison to the crime.”

The arrest affidavit claims that investigators were able to recover DNA evidence at the scene of the crime that pointed to Garrison. A hair was found at the scene of the crime by investigators, and mitochondrial DNA from that hair was tested and found to be consistent with a sample from Garrison, according to the court affidavit. In an interview, Garrison reportedly denied ever having been at the location of the crime.

According to court records, the decomposed body of Hays was found in an abandoned motel nearly 11 years ago. Hays was identified through dental records, and a strip of an American flag was found wrapped around her neck. An aluminum flag pole and the remains of the flag were found at the scene, the abandoned Velma’s Motel in Hominy. An autopsy by the state medical examiner determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to strangulation.

Hays was last seen on June 17, 1997, and two witnesses reported that she was either walking with Garrison, or he was following her, according to the arrest warrant.

Garrison had arrived in court for a hearing on an unrelated drug count, and was arrested for the 1997 murder at that time.

All I can say is I hope he gets the big fat Death Penalty. If Garrison was following her, he was planning her murder.

Sh*t Fire And…

Like normal, things are busy and chaotic at my house. Exactly the opposite of how I like things to be. Between the end of the school year goings on and the weather knocking out our electric for hours at a time, I cannot seem to get caught up on anything. Did I mention I am reading a really, really good book?

I have not had much computer time, which makes me cranky. What little spare time I have had, Ive been reading like the addict I am. Ive written very little here.

I read all of your comments and think witty replies in my mind but do not have the time to peck it out on the keyboard.

However, I am not ready to give  up my blog just yet……..

waaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaaa I sound like a big whiner.

********************

Hubs, Wee One, and Bubba like to watch Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. Sometimes I catch bits and pieces when I can. I think Sig, Caption of the Northwestern is hot. He is not drop-dead gorgeous but something about him is smokin’ sexy.

Hubs got out the hair clippers Tuesday evening.

Wee One and his curls ran for cover. He hid out in Bubba’s room with the door locked being silent as a mouse.

Hubs buzzed off all his(hubs) hair, then shaved his head smooth. His curls are gone and his face is shaved clean too. Hubs looks like a stranger! He says he is much cooler with the warm weather with his new look.

For now, Wee One’s curls are safe.

**************************

Wee One and I made a drive out to ET’s parents house after school one day this week. On our way, we drove into a huge herd of steers. Apparently, someone left a gate open and the cattleguard was filled in with sand. So, like normal, the dumb cattle had to race out the open gate and were standing all around blocking the road.

I slammed on my brakes and waited for the herd to disperse, parting the pavement like it was the Red Sea for Moses.

Wee One was reading his insect book from the library when he looked up to see why we’d stopped.

I hear, “shit fire and save the matches. stupid cows.” from the back seat of my car.

I look in my rearview mirror and say, “what did you just say?!?!”

Wee One says, ” I said shhhhhhhi.”

I interrupt him, “nevermind. I heard what you said. Who says that? that is a cuss word

Wee One, “Daddy.”

grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Me, “no more cuss words.”

Wee One thinks for a minute then he asks, “do I get the soap when we go home?”

Me, “no, do not say anymore bad words or you will.”

Then Wee One goes into all the words he can say that are not bad words but close enough. I hear him saying to himself, ” I can say dang, darn, shoot, freakin’, frackin’, jerk, butt, jackass…..

sigh

I cannot get the voice to activate on my webcam-grrrrrrrr.

In this photo I need a trip to the liqour store or a sledge hammer to beat my POS computer to smithereens with.

The laptops screen is fading out and acting weird so I am depending on my desktop for everything these days. It sucks.

Scooter needs a shave!

 The Crabbies.

Both were wormed this week and not very happy about it either. Freddie has only been here since last October, I suspect his last owner didnt care a whole lot about his health.

I worm Scooter on a strict schedule mainly because of his age.

Older horses can easily be brought down by parasites. I use both ivermectin and praziquantel in a paste from the horse vet. She has a one dose that is higher than is available in Zimectrin Gold, another paste wormer I have found that works great for the Old Guy.

Despite the stormy weather, Scooter and I have been out on the trails. His arthritis is doing excellent and he has not been sore or lame. The snakes are out so I have been keeping my eyes open. I put out some Snake-Away around the barn, I found a gigantic snakeskin when I was switching about some hay bales. I do not keep any feed in this barn so I should not have any rodents. Getting suprised by a nasty tempered snake isnt my idea of a good time.

Ever faithful Marvin. He is always waiting for me by the door when I come inside. While I am outside, he perches on the chair and watches me thru the parted curtains.

He loves me~!

Agawaadizi Ishkoniganan

 agawaaizi ishkoniganancraziness on the reservation

Things have been just plain weird: 1)hubs being in a mostly good mood every day and not complaining about my upcoming vacation away from them all  2) a troubled family member getting his sh*t together (finally!) 3)a phone call from a person who I had not spoken to in years ( I wanted to scream “how’d you get my cell number!!!????”)

Too busy, not enough time in the day, just plain craziness happening around here.

As I sit here typing, I feel I am in a The Twilight Zone episode and Rod Sterling should be narrating.

 bangishimo aabaakawadsunset after a storm

Tuesday evening we had a beautiful sunset after the monsoon passed that pummeled Oklahoma. The flooding is bad.

Hubs had to walk around many of his oil leases to check them Wednesday due to the creeks and local rivers being too high to cross in his 4X4 or 4-wheeler.

Hubs likes to walk so he was not unhappy.

My flowers are loving the rain and warm sunshine.

Hubs welded my flower bed border and he also painted it! Now I need to get busy and make it look nice…..eh, maybe after my vacation.

Scooter striking a pose for Horse Illustrated.

Stoooooopid cockleburs. Only about three, but damn!

Hubs took Wee One to the Grandparents yesterday evening, then to the tiny park, Bubba has been gone on a fishing trip with his cousins, I was home alone…………

I said outloud to myself, “ta hell with chores and housework! I’m going for a ride.”

Scooter and I took off for about 45 minutes…..that is 3 rides in less than a week. We are on a roll.

On my next ride I may take along my camera…maybe. I am very, very careful with my camera. Heck, most of the time, I do not carry my cell phone when I am riding, it is peaceful without it.

The Goat Ranchers are having babies left and right. Over the weekend, Scooter and I saw twins being born. They were soooooo cute and tiny! I need to get some photos of them.

Poor Freddie left behind again. He does lead easily for a donkey but I do not want to ruin my too few trail rides ponying him along.

Freddie can be ridden. I have gotten on him but he does not know a thing. I know, I know. I should be teaching him….., eh, maybe after my vacation

 Mean arent I?

Not really, I did stake him out in the back yard and let him munch on the new green grass growing out back while I did chores. Freddie enjoyed it!

Scooter acted like a complete ninny when he saw Freddie was out of the pasture and in the yard. You’d have thought he and Freddie were best buddies the way Scooter carried on. I finally shut Scooter up inside his stall and he whinnied his fool head off from inside there. Silly horse.

The next 2 days look wonderful in the weather department. Wee One and I will be hitting the big park Friday and some Easter Egg hunts on Saturday.

I really want to cancel our appointments today and play outdoors but that isnt feasible.

Happy Easter!

Spring Break Blue

I am feeling blue.

It’s been raining for hours.

Rain, rain go away!

It has poured down rain all dang day.

ziigibiisaa (pouring rain).

Chance of rain 100% oh joy!

I promised Wee One we’d go to the big park during his Spring Break. I hope we get a decent weather day. Tomorrow is out, we have to go to Tulsa back to his Surgeons for an appointment. Thursday is out because I have a morning dental appointment and Wee One has an afternoon nurse appointment at the clinic for a vaccination.

Please let Friday be a nice day!

Monday evening was cloudy and cool, not much wind.

Hubs got home from work in time for a basketball game…..things got a bit rowdy

Wee One stole the ball and drove off with it.

Scooter  thought he was a racehorse…actually some kids were shooting off firecrackers and Scooter ran over to see what was making all that racket.

Scooter has suprised me on our last 2 rides. He has had a lot of energy and did not get winded like I thought he might.

I love to ride him at an all out gallop…..I was sooo tempted to just give him his head last night.

but

My common sense over-ruled.

I only allowed Scooter to stretch his legs at a comfortable lope on our soft, sandy road we usually gallop on. I had not inspected the road in quite awhile nor had Scooter been ridden much over the winter, he has not stumbled but I was not taking chances. Not to mention my last 2 rides were in the o-ring snaffle bridle minus a chin-strap. Disaster could have been around the corner with those ingredients.

Maybe next time…

Freddie was once again shut inside the panel pen while Scooter and I took off on another ride.

I took this yesterday before our ride. Scooter was grazing on some green grass shoots.

He isnt today……..

Today our pasture looks like this:

Scooter and Freddie are holed up inside the barn eating hay…neither one of them likes the rain much. They are too much like me.

Who Hears A Who??

Wee One and I caught the matinee of Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! (2008) Sunday. We made the 20 minute trip South to the tiny, very rural, movie theater for the 2:00 pm showtime…..the only showtime.

I should not complain because one of the best things about this tiny theater is their prices. Here is what the matinee cost us yesterday:

2 matinee tickets: $6
large popcorn: $5
Large diet Dr. Pepper: $2
1 box of Whoppers Candy: $2
Total: $15
If we would have driven 45 minutes to Bartlesville and fought the crowds at the Mall, my wallet would be about $25-$30 lighter….not mentioning in the price of gas. The theater we go to isnt fancy or as new as the higher priced ones, but the movie looks and sounds the same as in any other theater I have been in.
‘Horton Hears A Who’ has always been my favorite Dr. Seuss story. Wee One and I enjoyed the movie very much. It was fast paced, cute, and kept him interested throught out the entire movie. Definitely a good movie for the little kids.
We had good weekend weather. Green grass is growing up fast. This is an old photo, it isnt quite that green yet.
I’ve decided not to do a garden this year…I think I’ll stick to my potted veggie plants…..maybe plant more flowers and focus on some landscaping instead of a garden that probably wont survive.
*************
I was able to spend a much needed hour in the saddle. Scooter, however, needs some work. It did not help that I rode him in an old o-ring snaffle bridle minus a chin strap. Nor did I take the time to lunge him for 15 – 20 minutes. Time was of the essence in our getaway from home. I knew Scooter should have been ridden in the 3 piece low port with a roller but I decided against going back inside after that bridle.
When we reached our soft sandy road, I let Scooter lope a good long way. Once he worked off some energy Scooter paid more attention to me and not everything else. We could hear Freddie braying a few times, Scooter did not answer and pointedly ignored Freddie’s calls from the panel pen where Freddie was put into before our departure.
*****************
I have had an extra kid since Thursday, Bubba’s best bud Cho who we love having around…this is the only friend of Bubba’s that I can tolerate for a length of time. Cho is a wonderful and well behaved teenager but he was a wonderful and well behaved small kid was well.
******************
Hubs filled my car up for me yesterday. I did not ask him what the cost was, our gas prices are up to $2.99. Crude Oil is over $110 a barrel the last time I checked. That is very good for my family, Crude Oil is how we survive…..do I feel bad about the high gas prices? yeah, a little bit. But, not like the rest of the Country.
What is the price of gas in your area?
